The WH-1000XM6 (May 2025) is Sony's sixth-generation flagship over-ear ANC headphone, and the first with the new QN3 HD Noise Cancelling Processor running 12 microphones. The result is a step-change in noise cancellation, especially at the higher frequencies (voices, café chatter) where every previous generation struggled. The AI features earn the listing here: Adaptive Sound Control learns your locations and time of day to automatically adjust ANC and ambient modes; AI-powered upmixing (DSEE Extreme) restores detail to compressed audio in real time; and 360 Reality Audio uses head-tracking to place stereo sources spatially around you. Editor's note: If you're upgrading from the XM4, the difference is immediately obvious. From the XM5, more incremental, but the foldable hinge alone is worth it for travelers.
